SWIFT is short for the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication. Despite its oversized name, it’s simply a worldwide bank ID. Unlike IBAN, which identifies specific bank accounts, SWIFT refers to a specific bank only, including banks in the UK.

IBAN Format

1. IBAN in Pakistan will be a 24 digit (fixed length) account number.
2. First 2 digits will be the Country Code.
3. Next 2 digits will be Check digits.
4. Next 4 Digits will be the Bank code.
5. Last 16 digits will be the customer’s account number.

The IBAN number consists of a two-letter country code, followed by two check digits, and up to thirty-five alphanumeric characters. These alphanumeric characters are known as the basic bank account number (BBAN). However, only European banks use IBAN, although the practice is becoming popular in other countries.

IBAN facilitates a global money transfer with ease. It allows you to exchange the required bank account details in a machine-readable form. That is, when an Indian resident wants to send money to a country in Europe, they should be knowing the IBAN Number of the beneficiary.

34 alphanumeric characters
An IBAN number contains up to 34 alphanumeric characters. It is prefaced by a two-character country code, two check digits, and a Basic Bank Account Number (BBAN) that contains specific bank and account details.

To make an IBAN, banks combine local account details into one string of characters. This means you can calculate an IBAN using these account details….IBAN in Pakistan consists of 24 characters:
