anything below 5ms is fine. Last edited by cavern on Tue Sep 25, 2007 3:32 pm, edited 1 time in total. I don’t think 12ms is bad at all, that’s like standing 12 feet from your speakers, hardly a hug delay. I run my buffers at 256 or 512 samples and never really notice any latency issues.

To my surprise, out of the box Ableton 10 has a latency that makes it unusable. It is not the case in Reaper. In Reaper, I have no (or unperceivable) latency with the same Audio interface (Audient). It is quite disappointing.

As such, the minimum amount of latency is equivalent to the time required for a single audio buffer to be processed within a given rate of samples per second. Or, in more practical terms… Buffer Size (number of samples) ÷ Sample Rate (kHz) = Expected Latency (ms).

Latency is a necessary part of digital audio. If the audio buffer size is set very high, or there are devices with lots of latency, this can make recording in real time more difficult. But there are ways to minimize latency while monitoring.
