To make the image transition with a fading effect we use the asynchronous function. Inside the asynchronous function, use another setInterval() method to slowly decrease the opacity of the topmost image till opacity becomes 0. By doing this, the topmost image will appear to fade away slowly.

In graphics and video editing, fade out is a term used to describe a transition effect where the image slowly disappears into a black. This usually indicated the end of a scene or the video. Fade out is a type of dissolve effect.

This way, fadeIn will return a function. That function will be used as the onclick handler. You can pass fadeIn a function, which will be called after you’ve performed the last step of your animation.

Some of you guys may be wondering, why don’t we just use display: none or visibility: hidden !? Sadly, as at the time of writing, CSS animation is not working with display: none – The element will simply disappear without any fade effects. Also, visibility: hidden will have the problem of retaining the empty space as above.
