How do I hide and show columns in SSRS report?

To hide static columns in a table, matrix, or list. In Design view, select the table, matrix, or list to display the row and column handles. Right-click the column handle, and then click Column Visibility.

Open the report in design view. Right-click a column, show properties. Click on the Visibility tab. Display can be toggled by this report item (choose a textbox).

The steps are something like the following.

1. In Row Groups, right-click (Details), click Group Properties.
2. Click the Visibility page.
3. Select (•) Show or hide based on an expression.
4. Click the Expression Builder button.
5. =IIF( Fields! TotalAllocation.Value = 0 and Fields!
6. Click OK then OK again.

To enable the SSRS Drill down action, first, go to Row groups pane, and right-click on the Product Category Name will open the context menu. From the context, Please select Group Properties.. option, as shown in the below screenshot. Once you select the Group Properties..

To hide the table in report if there is no data in table follow the following step:

1. Select and right click on the table then select Tablix Properties.
2. In the Tablix Properties window select Visibility from left column. On right column select show or hide based on expression checkbox and click the function.

Hiding a row can be done in an expression for the Row Visibility property. Select the entire row and right click to access Row Visibility. In this window, you can “Show or hide based on an expression”. Clicking the fx button opens the expression window.

For a table or matrix, you can show or hide static rows and columns, or rows and columns that are associated with groups. In this illustration, the user clicks the plus signs (+) in the report to show detail data. For example, you can initially hide all the rows except the outer group summary row for a table with row groups.

The + /- is the only symbol supported by SSRS for visibility functionality. It would be fantastic to be able to have additional choices (for example, a chevron which is popular these days for show/hide functionality) in a future version of SQL Server. The only report item that can be used as a toggle is a textbox.

When you create a report with a drilldown action, the visibility information must be set on the group, column, or row that you want to hide, not just a single text box in the row or column.
