Windows Sandbox provides a lightweight desktop environment to safely run applications in isolation. Software installed inside the Windows Sandbox environment remains “sandboxed” and runs separately from the host machine. To start a program in the sandbox, copy the files from the regular operating system into the cache using the key combination [Ctrl] + [C]. Next, insert the file into the sandbox using [Ctrl] + [V]. There, you can run or install the application.

Windows Sandbox is not available officially for Windows 10 Home. It is possible, however, to enable the feature on Home devices provided that they run Windows 10 version 1903 or later.

How to enable Windows Sandbox on Windows 10

1. Open Start on Windows 10.
2. Search for Turn Windows features on or off and click the top result to open the experience.
3. Check the Windows Sandbox option. Enable Windows Sandbox on Windows 10 version 1903.
4. Click the OK button.
5. Click the Restart now button.

Activate Windows Sandbox in Windows 10 Home Edition

1. Go to Run –> optionalfeatures. This will open the Windows optional features window.
2. Check Windows Sandbox and press OK. This will enable Windows Sandbox in Windows 10 Home. Restart the computer if required.
