How do I add Tesseract to path?

We want to use Tesseract from our windows command line and to do that, we have to add Tesseract to our path in the system’s environment variable. To do so, click on your start button on windows and search “environment variable”. You will see a result called “Edit the system environment variables”. Click on that.

For Windows Only

1. You need to have Tesseract OCR installed on your computer.
2. Add Tesseract path to your System Environment.
3. Run pip install pytesseract and pip install tesseract.

If everything is fine you should see that the path C:/Program Files (x86)/Tesseract-OCR where tesseract.exe is available.

Scroll down and select tesseract-ocr-w64-setup-v4. 1.0- elag2019.exe to start the download. N.B. If you have a laptop that belongs to your institution you may need to ask someone at your institution with administrator privileges to install the Tesseract application and other files you have just downloaded.

Steps: -Build a static executable (self-contained) tesseract.exe compatible with Windows. 3 Answers. You need to call the function – pytesseract. get_tesseract_version() – but that will get you the underlying Tesseract version, not the version of pytesseract in use.

3. Run pip install tesseract.
4. To test if tesseract is installed type in python prompt: import pytesseract. print(pytesseract)

1. fix DPI (if needed) 300 DPI is minimum.
2. fix text size (e.g. 12 pt should be ok)
3. try to fix text lines (deskew and dewarp text)

In windows, the command path must be redirected, for a default windows tesseract installation. In 32 bit system, add in this line after import commands. pytesseract.pytesseract.tesseract_cmd = ‘C://Program Files (x86)//Tesseract-OCR esseract.exe’ In 64 bit system, add this line instead.

Once the installation is over, go to the directory where you have installed your Tesseract.
