Can you turn up CPU fan speed?

The thing a lot of people do not realize is that it is possible to make your computer cool down by turning the fan speed up. The place you have to go to in order to turn up your fan speed is the BIOS menu. Select the option called “Fan Speed Control” from the submenu in order to open the fan controls.

1. Check for any BIOS settings concerning the cooling, this is often very limited on brand computers but it’s the best place to start.
2. In Windows 7, go to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Power Options/Edit Plan Settings and click on Change advanced power settings.
3. Try using a third party tool like Speedfan.

Open the “Start” menu, click on the “All Programs” list, and open the ” Speedfan ” program. Click on the “Readings” tab and use the up and down arrow buttons to increase the speed of your fan to 100 percent. If you can audibly hear your fan increasing in speed, your fan is working just fine.

Click a radio button in the upper-left corner of the screen under “Main operating mode” to select an overall fan policy for your system. Select “Manual fan control” to use a slider bar to adjust the fan’s speed.

Run the app and click Sensors on the main window.

In order to lower the fan speed on those machines, you need to decrease production of heat, and best way to do it is to lower the CPU clock in BIOS. After that your computer or a laptop will have reduced performance but it will heat significantly lower and fan speed will be lower consequently.

Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll through the BIOS menu to the “Monitor,” “Status” or other similarly named submenu (this will also vary slightly by manufacturer). Select the “Fan Speed Control” option from the submenu to open the fan controls.
