Why is the cast icon not showing up?

If the “Cast” icon is missing when you try to watch Netflix on your Chromecast, it usually means that information on the device you’re trying to cast from needs to be refreshed.

Make sure your device (phone/tablet) is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast. Reboot your Chromecast, unplug the power from the mains, wait ten seconds and plug it in again. If the icon still hasn’t appeared, completely reset your Chromecast and then reconnect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network.

For all Google Cast devices, do the following:

1. Install your Cast device and run through the setup instructions.
2. Run the Google Home app (for a phone or tablet) on your sender device, following the setup prompts as directed.
3. Register your Google Cast device at the Google Cast SDK Developer Console.

If your smartphone or computer cannot detect a nearby cast device — perhaps because it is in use by another device — the cast button/icon might not appear in the YouTube player. In this case, make sure the cast device is properly set up and near your PC.

First try turning off your Chromecast by unplugging it, and while it’s unplugged power off your mobile device and home router. Keep everything off for about 1 minute. Turn your router and/or cable modem back on, and wait for the connection to fully reestablish, about 2 minutes. Turn on your Chromecast.

Make sure the Chromecast device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone and speaker or display. Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi network that is listed next to the blue check mark is the Wi-Fi network your phone is connected to. To change the Wi-Fi network, tap a network from the list.

When your Chromecast isn’t working, the first thing you should try is rebooting the device. The easiest way to do this is the tried and true method of unplugging it, waiting for a minute or so, then plugging it back in. Give it a few minutes to start up, then try casting to your device again.

While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV, hold down the button on the side of the Chromecast. The LED will begin blinking orange. When the LED light turns white, release the button and the Chromecast will then restart.

Does Chromecast come with built-in apps? Yes – that’s part of the point! Plug a Chromecast into any dumb or smart TV, and you’ll be able to access the Chromecast interface and app selection instead.

Mirror your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a TV

1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
2. Open Control Center:

4. Select your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV from the list.

Turning the Chromecast, mobile device, and router off and on again at the same time can actually resolve many casting related issues. First try turning off your Chromecast by unplugging it, and while it’s unplugged power off your mobile device and home router. Keep everything off for about 1 minute.

This is a one-time permission which you will need to enable in order to cast Stan. If you do not enable this setting, you will not be able to cast Stan to a Chromecast device. If you’re unable to find the cast icon after upgrading to iOS 14, please ensure you have enabled Local Network for Stan in Settings on your iPhone/iPad.

I understand the Cast icon is missing when trying to use some of your apps with Chromecast on your iPad and iPhone.

Now the cast symbol has vanished on all three apps, and both my iPad Pro and iPhone XR seem to have both lost the ability to cast – and forgotten they were ever connected to the Chromecast. (I’ve already talked to Chromecast support, but since my partner’s Android phone casts fine, it’s clearly an iOS issue).

If you do not have the Google Home app, download it now. Select the Home tab on the bottom left of the screen. Scroll down to the Devices section and look for your Chromecast. If your Chromecast is listed, it is on the same network as your iOS device.
