Are there any drivers for the Asus Xonar?

The folks over at maxedtech.com have a more recent driver that is developed by C-Media, and compatible with the Asus Xonar hardware. These drivers have been modified to make it work with the Asus sound cards and are referred to as the “Uni Xonar Drivers”.

The Xonar DG sound card combines Dolby Headphone 5.1 high definition surround with ASUS’ own GX 2.5 gaming audio engine and an on-board headset amplifier.

Speakers (Asus Xonar DX Audio Device), otherwise known as ” Dolby Digital Live! ” mode. This will force the audio card to output in 5.1 channels all the time, even if 5.1 channels aren’t embedded in the source file / video / game you’re playing.

Under “System Input” (near the top), specify “8 channel audio”. Near the bottom of the window and to the left of the heading “S/PDIF Output,” click the little circle to enable it (it will turn blue), then select “Dolby Digital Live”, then click “OK”.

Apparently the Asus Xonar DGX is EOL (End Of Line), which is a shame, since it’s still a perfectly good sound card, and last time I checked it was still for sale in some stores. Asus also still has the broken Windows 10 drivers listed for download on their website.

The last available Windows 10 driver for Xonar DGX is labled Audio driver for windows 10 32/64bit version 8.1.8.1823, and it can be downloaded from Asus website. However, this driver does no longer work after the Fall Creators update.

Different drivers could work differently so if you encounter any issues try installing the other UNi Xonar versions. Apart from driver issues, there could be issues solely from Windows 10 sound system that would be fixed with future Windows updates. There is also a small chance that some things could break with future Windows updates.

If your Asus Xonar card does not have the Dolby Digital Live! feature, then the games you play on the PC will not be in true 5.1 surround sound. In this case, your stereo receiver will up-convert the signal to another technology such as DTS or Dolby Pro Logic.
