How do I use Userprofile?

The %USERPROFILE% environment variable

1. Open a new File Explorer window. You can open it from the Start menu (Windows System → File Explorer). Or, press the keyboard shortcut Windows key + E (hold down the Windows key and press E).
2. Click in the location bar.
3. Type %USERPROFILE% and press Enter .

The directory pointed at with the environment variable %userprofile% stores personal data of a specific user. The value of %userprofile% usually is c:/Userssername ( username being lowercase of %username% ?)

The cause of this behaviour is the order of execution of the commands. The command you want to execute is in one of the folders in your path. But the batch file is in your current folder so it gets executed first, causing the loop.

Identify a damaged profile

1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click System.
2. Click Advanced, and then under User Profiles, click Settings.
3. Under Profiles stored on this computer, click the suspect user profile, and then click Copy To.
4. In the Copy To dialog box, click Browse.

The user-profile folder is a container for applications and other system components to populate with sub-folders, and per-user data such as documents and configuration files. Windows Explorer uses the user-profile folders extensively for such items as the user’s Desktop, Start menu and Documents folder.

A user profile is a collection of settings and information associated with a user. It contains critical information that is used to identify an individual, such as their name, age, portrait photograph and individual characteristics such as knowledge or expertise.

When I run the script locally on their session everything works fine, no questions asked. When I run the script via logon or logoff it simply wont work. As for the ClearPrinter.reg, it simply adds the PrinterPorts with the proper printers back.

Opening an elevated command prompt, as you describe, and as I mentioned, does work. Right-click, Run as Administrator no longer works. It used to. Running non-elevated, either by double-clicking or via opening a command prompt works (though then various commands fail due to lack of permission, as expected.)

Incorrect modification of the Windows registry can cause serious problems. In the right-pane, make sure that the (default) value data is not set. It should read as value not set.
