What does an action command do?

Actions are commands that manipulate the state of the application. Upon execution, if an action fails the execution of the current test is stopped. For Example, “click a link” and “select an option”.

Advantages

• Selenium IDE is very easy to use.
• It has the capability to convert the test to different programming languages such as html, java etc.
• Programming language experience is not required for Selenium IDE.
• Selenium IDE provides Logging capabilities using file login plug-in.

Actions. Actions are the selenium commands that generally manipulate the state of the application. Execution of Actions generates events like click this link, select that option, type this box, etc. If an Action fails, or has a bug, the execution of current test is stopped.

Selenese
Selenese is the language used to write Selenium Commands.

In Selenium, the Select class provides the implementation of the HTML SELECT tag. A Select tag provides the helper methods with select and deselect options. As Select is an ordinary class, its object is created by the keyword New and also specifies the location of the web element.

Methods of Action Class

1. doubleClick(): Performs double click on the element.
2. clickAndHold(): Performs long click on the mouse without releasing it.
3. dragAndDrop(): Drags the element from one point and drops to another.
4. moveToElement(): Shifts the mouse pointer to the center of the element.

II. Disadvantages of Selenium

• No reliable Technical Support from anybody.
• It supports Web-based applications only.
• Difficult to use, takes more time to create Test cases.
• Difficult to Setup Test Environment when it compares to Vendor Tools like UFT, RFT, SilkTest etc…
• Limited support for Image Testing.

Limitations of Selenium IDE

• Not suitable for testing extensive data.
• Connections with the database can not be tested.
• Cannot handle the dynamic part of web-based applications.
• Does not support capturing of screenshots on test failures.
• No feature available for generating result reports.

Selenium IDE by default has a language system commonly called Selenese. It is a group of commands used to perform operations on the web. It primarily helps to develop scripts in Selenium IDE. It can verify if an element is present on a screen, alerts, Ajax calls, links and many more.

You can use multiple programming languages like Java, C#, Python etc to create Selenium Test Scripts. Testing done using the Selenium testing tool is usually referred to as Selenium Testing.
