What is signing Xcode?

Signing your app allows iOS to identify who signed your app and to verify that your app hasn’t been modified since you signed it. The Signing Identity consists of a public-private key pair that Apple creates for you. The Certificate will contain the public key that can be downloaded to your system.

Code signing your app assures users that it’s from a known source and hasn’t been modified since it was last signed. Before your app can integrate app services, be installed on a device, or be submitted to the App Store, it must be signed with a certificate issued by Apple.

1. Login to developer.apple.com member centre.
2. Go to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles.
3. Get UDID of your device and add it in the devices.
4. Select a developer provisioning profile and edit it.
5. Click on check box next to the device you just added.
6. Generate and download the profile.
7. Double click on it to install it.

Code signing is a final step to run your app on an iPhone. It’s Xcode’s way of signing off that your app is valid. You need this step because Apple only lets trusted apps run on iPhone or iPad. If you see Thread 1: signal SIGABRT when you start a brand new Xcode project on an iPhone or iPad.

The Certificate will be pushed into the Keychain and paired with the private key to form the Code Signing Identity. Finally, at the time of app installation, the private key used to sign the app matches the public key in the certificate. If it fails, app is not installed.

Some developers might use Sign in with Apple to give you an account for more than one app. If that’s the case and you turn off email forwarding or stop using your Apple ID for one app, it applies to all apps from
