Today, Apple announced that subscriptions and one-time in-app purchases can now be shared among families. If you buy a consumable item, like coins in a game, you’ll still be the only one who can use them, but if you unlock an ad-free or pro version of an app it could be eligible for the new Family Sharing program.

Set up a new family and share a storage plan

Through iCloud Family Sharing, Apple users can share subscriptions and in-app purchases. To enable this feature, you need to turn on Family Sharing feature. To do this, head to Settings > Apple ID > Family Sharing. Under the Family Sharing tab, you can add your family members with valid Apple IDs.

How to enable in-app purchases on iPhone

1. Start the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Tap “Screen Time.”
3. Tap “Content & Privacy Restrictions.”
4. If it’s not grayed out, tap “iTunes & App Store Purchases.” If it is grayed out, then you don’t have Screen Time set up and should skip to the next solution.
5. Tap “In-app Purchases.”

Navigate to the purchase page for the app you were gifted. Click Redeem Gift. In the window that pops up, enter the code then click Submit.

You should get it within 24 hours. I have sent gifts to myself via email and usually get them within an hour or two. The person who sent it to you can send it again. Have them check the email address they are sending it to.

You Can Now Gift In-App Purchases To Others. Apple has altered its App Store Guidelines to allow customers to gift In-App Purchases to friends and family.

Tap on the Share button in the upper right. Tap Gift in the share sheet that pops up. Fill out their email and type a message if you’d like. Tap on Next when you’re ready to continue. Tap on the gift card theme you’d like to use and tap Next.

If you send a gift and the recipient doesn’t receive an email, resend the gift. Open the Settings app. Tap your name, then tap iTunes & App Store. Tap your Apple ID at the top of the screen, then tap View Apple ID. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID. Tap Gifts.

Your recipient can redeem an Apple Gift Card or App Store & iTunes Gift Card to their Apple ID balance. Then they can use that balance to buy subscriptions like Apple Music, Apple Arcade, or Apple TV+. Or they can buy apps, movies, books, and more from Apple. Email a gift card.
