Why is dual boot not showing up?

The dual boot option or the Windows Boot Manager during restart may not show for several reasons. The boot menu is not activated. Systems with fast startup enabled may boot directly into the default OS without offering any boot options. The default operating system in Startup and Recovery may be incorrectly configured.

Install your Linux distribution of choice. Open the Microsoft Store and select your favorite Linux distribution. Select the USB drive or stick in which you want to install the Ubuntu. From a “Create a bootable disk using” option select an ISO image from the drop-down. Click on the CD-ROM icon to select the downloaded Ubuntu ISO image. Click on the start button to begin the Ubuntu bootable USB creation process.

You can easily use the Windows bootloader to boot into Windows or Ubuntu, with no hassle. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, and I am sure it works with 7 as well.

1. Boot to your Linux.
2. Open a Terminal window.
3. Type: sudo os-prober.
4. If the results identify a Windows 10 install, type sudo update-grub which will update the GRUB entries and add it.

Installing GRUB2 on a BIOS system

1. Create a configuration file for GRUB2. # grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg.
2. List block devices available on the system. $ lsblk.
3. Identify the primary hard disk.
4. Install GRUB2 in the MBR of the primary hard disk.
5. Reboot your computer to boot with the newly installed bootloader.

I have recently installed Windows 10 and Ubuntu 19.04 on the same machine for dual booting. I installed Windows 10 first as recommended and then installed Ubuntu 19.04. But when restarted the machine, it was booted straight to Windows 10 without showing the Grub boot menu to select a system as expected.

1 In Windows, go to the menu. 2 Search for Command Prompt, right click on it to run it as administrator. 3 This is strictly for Ubuntu. Other distributions might have some other folder name. 4 Restart and you’ll be welcomed by the familiar Grub screen. I hope this quick tutorial helped you fix the Grub issue.

Boot from the Ubuntu installation media – then open a terminal and execute: Now you can choose which operating system you want to boot from the GRUB boot loader menu. To identify the partition numbers use GParted. The tool is included in the Ubuntu install media. get in to UEFI setup and change the UEFI boot order.

Go to Boot menu → Boot mode and select Legacy Support (instead of UEFI ). Then the GRUB menu should appear on reboot without having to press Esc or any other key. This happened to me because the boot order got changed on its own. I have an HP 11 laptop and also have the same issue.
