Waze’s newest feature is the ability to configure a route on their website and then send it to your phone. You need to access waze.com/livemap. Here you’ll create your route like you do on any other mapping service, like Google Maps. You’ll then have the option to take the route to your phone on the upper left.

You can add or edit a place on the map from within the Waze app. Note: You can also do this in the Waze Map Editor.

Waze is community-based, Google Maps is more data-based. Waze is pretty much just for cars, Google Maps offers walking, driving, biking, and public transportation directions. Google Maps uses a traditional navigation interface, while Waze offers a sleek and minimal interface using the latest in design language.

Waze was founded in 2007 by Israeli trio, Ehud Shabtai, Amir Shinar, and Uri Levine. The idea was indeed a bit unusual at the time: a navigation app that uses the power of the crowd. The users are those who draw the maps as they drive the roads.

You can use the Google Apps mobile app (free for iOS or Android) to create a map with multiple destinations in much the same way. Fire up the Google Maps app on your mobile device, and then tap the blue “Go” button on the bottom right of your screen. By default, Maps uses your device’s location for the starting point.

One of Google Maps’ core capabilities includes plotting multiple markers. The app enables users to save or mark multiple locations through pins. These pins are used to mark a place with or without an address. Plotting pins allows people to easily navigate from point A to point B, and helps show rendezvous locations.

You Can Choose a Different Route You might decide not to check the “Alternate Routes” feature on Waze because the app usually gives you the best option right away. However, if you’re not sure the current route is the best one, the app usually has other routes for you to choose from.

When you add a stop, Waze will offer you three preset options — parking lots, gas stations, and restaurants — but you can also add your own custom stop. Android version 6.0+

1. Open Android device Settings.
2. Enter the Apps menu (sometimes called Application Manager).
3. Swipe over to the All apps list.
4. Scroll down and tap on Waze.
5. Tap Open by default.
6. Tap Clear defaults if any exist, then tap Open supported links and choose the relevant option: Open in this app. Ask every time.

Currently, there is not a way in Waze to generate maps to send to your phone, either. You can certainly use the Live Map to get ideas of what route (s) Waze could present to you at different times of day. However, since real-time data could change things at the time of actual navigation, the route may still differ than what you see on Live Map.

Navigate from a start point that’s different than your current location. Tap Search . Tap the three dots in the top right corner for more information. Tap Set as start point option. Then set your destination by searching in the Search bar, or choose from your Favorites . Once you start your navigation, your start point will appear with a pin .
