Real Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) is a proprietary protocol, originally developed by Macromedia (now Adobe), for real-time streaming of video, audio, and data between a server and Flash player.

Select the Live Tools menu. Scroll to the bottom to find the RTMP Input option. Select Get Link. You will be presented with a Stream Key and a Server URL along with a few additional options.

RTMP stands for real-time messaging protocol. It provides for high-performance transmission of audio, video, and data from an encoder to a server, which distributes the signal across the Internet. Many streaming providers and encoder developers support RTMP streaming, including Livestream.

RTMP is a protocol, created by Macromedia and now owned by Adobe, that provides high-performance transmission of video, audio and data between encoder and server across the internet.

1. Click the Username and select the Dashboard option.
2. Under Dashboard select Settings -> Stream Key -> Show Key -> Copy the Stream Key (The stream key is unique for every individual account)
3. Copy the Server URL and the Stream key to the SlingStudio Console Custom RTMP feature. Start the broadcast.

Today, even though the RTMP protocol is no longer being implemented for last-mile delivery (replaced by HTTP streaming), using an RTMP encoder for contribution (first-mile) is still a go-to for many content producers. This is because many platforms accept RTMP streams and convert to ABR HTTP streaming.

View the streaming URL using a media player

1. Launch a media player.
2. Click the Media tab and select Open Network Stream from the drop-down menu.
3. Enter the stream URL. In this example, the serial number method is shown.

To configure the RTMP server, select the gearwheel icon to the right of the RTMP server input. By default, authentication is turned off. If you would prefer to have a username and password affiliated with your RTMP Server, click Change Settings.

The RTMP specification is a streaming protocol initially designed for the transmission of audio, video, and other data between a dedicated streaming server and the Adobe Flash Player. While once proprietary, RTMP is now an open specification.

By default it installs to /usr/local/nginx, so to start the server run the following command: Click to expand… And to test to make sure nginx is running, point your browser to http:// / and you should get the “Welcome to nginx!”

When RTMP stream ends allows you to select what Livestream Studio should do when you stop streaming from your third-party encoder. The options are: Stop Streaming: Studio will end its stream. Check the Stream tab to a prompt on what to do with your stream’s archive on the selected streaming destination (e.g. save as draft, post, delete).
